How to be friends with Oprah (with Tim Storey)

Who doesn’t know Oprah, right? Yes, you read that right, the Oprah. Now imagine if you were friends with her. What about if you were also friends with the likes of Robert Downy Jr? How’s that for networking?

I recently had the pleasure of talking to Tim Storey, acclaimed author, speaker, and life coach. What does he do? He helps people like us create our dream future. And yes, he is friends with Oprah and other stars and influencers. Tim uses seasoned principles and his amazing sense of humor to enable people to move forward.

Here is a quick rundown of all the value bombs that Tim and I talked about:

1. Your environment and confidence have a lot to do with your success.
There are two ways to build confidence in a person–one is ‘innate’ and the second is the environmental. Basically, there are people born with talents and unique skills. Like imagine waking up knowing you can sing like Christina Aguilera or knowing you can play like Michael Jordan. Imagine how confident you are when people ask you to play a game or to sing in front of others.

Here’s something interesting: Tim actually prefers the environmental confidence, because to him, these people actually tend to work harder to succeed.

2. In the end, you’re the person who shapes your environment.
Yes, your environment can affect the way you are, but in the end, it’s your ball. Some people use the environment an excuse of why they are not successful. They dote on the lifestyle of their immediate community and claim that they ‘try to change’ instead of looking at it from another angle.

What’s the other angle? It’s acknowledging that the environment is what’s shaping you but that you have the control to shape the environment and ultimately, that will end up shaping you into something else.

3. When you have a setback, most of the time you’ll have a step back. Tim has a lot of stories of how he helped celebrities do this. After all, he’s been doing it for thirty years already. According to Tim, there are three steps to come back from a setback: Take inventory, partner with the right people, and get the right and comeback plan and make it as realistic as possible.

And finally, Tim’s one big tip for networking is to build another person’s vision, and be a servant. When you’re a servant and you help build someone else’s vision, it will be the ultimate life changer.
