Trump Agrees to Presidential Debate on Joe Rogan!!

Still don’t think podcasts are relevant? After the news that broke today…you may want to think again!

It’s no secret that Joe Rogan is the king of the podcast industry. But when he offered to moderate a 4 hours Presidential debate between President Trump and Senator Joe Biden with “just the two candidates, cameras, and their vision of how to move this country forward” I doubt anyone thought it would actually go anywhere.

Until it did. President Trump responded to the Tim Kennedy tweet and confirmed HE WANTED TO  DO IT!!!

While yes, this is big political news- I couldn’t help to think of the massive impact this has on the world of podcasting.

Here’s what I think this breaking news does for the podcast industry:

It solidifies Joe Rogan as one of the largest privately owned media outlets in the world.

Everyone in the podcasting space knows Joe Rogan. He’s built a wildly successful show, and according to Forbes, he was the highest paid podcaster of 2019.

But this proves he’s not just entertainment. He’s built a real media outlet for news and information that our current President deems worthy to mediate the presidential debate.

He’s one man with one microphone, and he now would hold the attention of the entire free world.

Move over Fox, CNN, and CBS. Joe Rogan is in town!

It confirms podcasting as a legitimate content source worth real money.

When I first heard of Joe’s deal with Spotify back in May, I talked about the excitement this brought simply because it was the first time podcasting had been given an actual price tag.

Podcasting has grown exponentially in the last several years, and with the $100 million plus deal and now a possible Presidential debate, I can’t help but think that no one can doubt the validity of podcasting anymore.

Presidential debates play key roles during the election year, and the simple fact that it could be mediated by a podcaster proves one thing.

The podcast platform is real– the audiences, the content, and the accessibility. Podcasting is here to stay!

It gives us a glimpse into the future of media consumption.

Only a few years ago, the idea of being a “youtuber” or “social media influencer” was deemed ridiculous.

But now, people pay big money to have access to the audiences these youtubers and influencers have built.

Even Hollywood celebrities like Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Rob Lowe, and others are starting their own podcasts.

And now, this Tweet has given us confirmation that being a podcaster is so much more than entertainment.

It’s a valid means to create content and share it with the world. Just imagine all the new ways people will start to lean on independent creators with audiences in the future?

It’s exciting, isn’t it?

It’s the new wave of media consumption, and I, for one, am glad to be riding it!

Conclusion

I realize that this Tweet doesn’t actually confirm this will happen. And the chances of it happening are still slim.

But when a sitting US President vocalizes his desire to see the Presidential debate moderated by a proven podcaster, it’s still enough to do what I’ve mentioned here and more!

What does this news mean to you? And what questions would you love to see Joe Rogan ask if this debate takes place?
