Unlike most twenty-one year olds though, I had a mortgage to pay on my first house, and I was married. So just moving back in with my parents while I figured out life wasn’t really an option for me. That’s when I got back into the only thing I really had experience in at the time, and that was door to door sales.
Yup. 100% commission door to door sales was the option for me because it’s (unsurprisingly) really difficult to get a job with a unaccredited ministry degree. After wearing many hats in that business for a few years including recruiting, training, and managing sales reps in a variety of different industries including solar, water, and alarm systems, I gained the clarity that I didn’t want to be doing that for the rest of my life either.
At that point, I started investing into myself and my network in a big way. And after 18 short months of putting out three interviews per week, finally started to pick up some steam. When that happened, people started reaching out to me about how I was able to build a successful podcast, which led to me doing some podcast coaching for people who wanted to achieve similar results. Through coaching dozens and dozens of people one on one about how to podcast, we finally launched podcastprofit.com which is an online community of people who are looking to make money podcasting.
When you work with as many people as I have in this space, you start to notice that there are one or two problems that seem to be repeating themselves more often than the other problems. One of those that kept being brought up was this question about how to book high level guests for your show. After putting together some trainings on it, we realized that the need was much bigger than that.
That is when Guestio was born. It’s a software marketplace that allows you to find and book top level talent to interview for your content whether it’s a podcast, youtube channel, blog, or something else. It’s our mission to give access to the inaccessible so that people like me and you can have the opportunity to get in touch with the people we want to get to know the most.
Even though I was always entrepreneurial, I wasn’t always on the path to owning a business. See I grew up in a small town in southern California called Lancaster. In Lancaster, there was a church campus where I basically spent my entire childhood, and in an effort to tell you that I’m not exaggerating, I graduated from kindergarten, 8th grade, high school, and college all on the same campus, which is also the campus that my church was on where I went three times a week. I wouldn’t call it a cult or anything, but it was a lot like growing up in a bubble.
Because of that, I ended up graduating from Bible college with a double major in Bible and Church Ministries. But by the time I graduated, I realized that wasn’t the path that I wanted to follow so I was sort of back to square one.
It’s been a wild few years over here, so whether you’re a listener of I Never Talk about This, a student in one of our trainings, or a Guestio user, I genuinely appreciate you, and I’d love to hear from you. If you’re new around here, and just trying to get to know more about me, feel free to roam around the rest of the site, check out some of our top featured guests on our show, or just reach out to me and the team. I can’t wait to get to know you better.
That’s when I entered a frustrating phase of my life. I was lost, clueless, jobless, and frustrated trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life and career. My degree was worthless and the one thing I knew how to do, I didn’t want to do anymore. No one would hire me. No one would give me a shot, and I was getting anxious to figure something out.
That was the first time in my life I dove into self development. I started consuming books, audiobooks, youtube, and finally discovered podcasts. And after listening to a ton of them, I came to the conclusion that podcasting would be the next thing for me.
The problem at that point was that I had no idea how to podcast let alone how to make money podcasting to the degree that I could do it full time. But if door to door taught me anything, it’s that if you have a goal in mind that you really want, you just have to be persistent until you figure it out. And if someone else has already figured it out, all you really need to do is get around those people.
